Florida DOR orders two-week delay in property tax payment deadline

On Thursday, March 26, 2020 the Florida Department of Revenue issued an order of emergency waiver that delays the statutory property tax deadline by two-weeks. The date for payment of taxes has been extended from March 31 to April 15, 2020. The order, signed by the Florida Department of Revenue Executive Director, Jim Zingale, states “All tax collectors shall consider taxes to be timely paid if received by electronic payment or postmarked by April 15, 2020, to address the conditions declared in the EO 20-52.”

The order also extends the due date for property tax returns filed by a railroad, roailroad terminal, private car and freight line and equipment company from April 1 to April 15, 2020. Returns for these centrally assessed property will be considered timely if received by the department electronically or postmarked by April 15, 2020.
